General Information
Why are they called “Slappa’s Thongs”?
When founder Denise Dunn was first rolling the product out in 2010 she asked all her family and friends to come up with and vote on a name; "Slappa's Thongs" was one of the suggestions and everyone laughed but at the same time… loved it!
The name has stuck, and the thongs have been known as "Slappas" ever since
Where are Slappa’s thongs made?
Slappa's Thongs are made in China as Australia has no manufacturers that are capable of closed cell foam injection. Slappa's Thongs are committed to ensuring that all our thongs are made to high standards and meet all Australian requirements.
We visit our manufacturers on a regular basis to ensure quality standards of production and human rights are being met.
Is Slappa’s thongs an Australian company?
Yes! Slappa's are proudly owned and operated in Australia with our headquarters in Darwin. We're a family run business that started at the Mindil Beach Sunset Markets in 2010.
How are Slappa’s Thongs made?
Slappa's are made using a process called 'Closed Cell Foam Injection'. During this process, EVA foam is injected into closed cell moulds.
This means that each thong is a single solid piece with no plug to pull out or seams to rub your foot wrong. It is also what gives every pair of Slappa's Thongs its own unique and individual look.
What are Slappa’s Thongs made of?
Slappa's Thongs are made of a foam called EVA or Ethylene Vinyl Acetate.
This is actually the same material mouthguards are made out of which is why they mould and protect your feet so well.
Are Slappa's Thongs Non-slip?
Slappa’s Thongs have a good grip and are designed with water channels to help disperse water from under the feet. Slappas have a slight ridge around the edge to help hold and support your feet. However, they are not classified as non-slip footwear.
Like with any type of footwear, we recommend slowing down and taking extra care when walking on wet or slippery surfaces.
When wearing Slappas in wet conditions, please walk cautiously and be aware of your surroundings.
Please note, as with most footwear brands, we do not accept responsibility for personal injury while wearing our thongs. We encourage all customers to use their judgment and take care in various conditions.
Are Slappa's Thongs Slippery?
When you first start wearing Slappas, occasionally they may feel a little slippery from the manufacturing process. We suggest cleaning your Slappas in soapy water and wiping with a towel this should help.
Slappas have a slight ridge around the edge to support and hold the feet in place, and the straps are firm, not loose or sloppy. Once your feet mould into them — which usually happens quite quickly your feet should stay in one place.
If you notice your feet getting sweaty while wearing your Slappas, it’s often due to a build-up of dirt—either on your feet or on the thongs themselves.
The simple fix? Give your Slappas a good clean using warm water, a cloth, and some mild soap. A quick clean can make a big difference in helping keep your thongs feeling fresh.

Why are Slappa’s thongs so comfortable?
Slappa's are super comfortable because they are made out of a foam, better known as EVA. EVA is a soft but durable material which allows your foot shape to mould into the thong, making them very comfortable to wear.
Slappa's Thongs also have great arch support which contributes to the comfort factor and is really good for your feet. Slappa's Thongs are made firm, however as you mould into them they will soften and mould to your foot shape. The straps will loosen and the thongs will give a little in length. This is why you'll find we recommended you fit your Slappa's firm to allow for this and then they will be a perfect fit and give you the best comfort, fit and support.
Can anyone wear Slappa’s thongs?
Absolutely! You don't have to suffer from foot pain or any other medical conditions or problems with your feet to benefit from Slappa's awesome thong design. They're also suitable for every age from kids to the elderly.
Our sizing starts from Size 34 and kids from about the age of 6 can wear Slappa’s and you can continue wearing them right up until 106; in fact, Slappa's Thongs are much safer than regular thongs for older people as they fit snug, mould their foot shape and reduce the risk of tripping over.

If you are trying to checkout using Afterpay and it is declined please read the information and follow the steps on their troubleshooting page.

Finding the Perfect Fit
Do you offer any other styles or only thongs?
We do get asked often to make other styles. Currently we are so busy with our thongs that we only offer the one style.
We do have lots of customers who buy Slappa’s Thongs when they normally can’t wear this style; our thongs are made from EVA foam which is very soft between the toes and doesn’t cause friction like rubber thongs which can cause rubbing.
What if the colour I want isn’t available in my size?
If your size doesn’t appear in the options on your preferred colour or if the size is disabled (out of stock) it means that we don’t have that colour/size combination available.
We don’t currently allow backorders of products but you are welcome to send us an email info@slappasthongs.com.au letting us know which colour and size you weren’t able to buy and we’ll add this to our list of requests for the next production.
Please note we aren’t always able to produce every size and colour combination, but we appreciate you letting us know what there is demand for.
Will you be phasing out the ‘Original’ Slappa’s?
Yes the moulds for the Originals are too old now which is why we upgraded to the new moulds and higher quality material. We will continue to sell Original Slappa’s until we run out of stock; they are available in limited colours and sizes.
What is the difference between the ‘Originals’ and the ‘Essentials’ Slappa’s?
Our new and improved 'Essentials' range of Slappa’s were released in November 2018 and are slightly longer around the toes and a tiny bit wider allowing us to fit even more people into Slappa’s. We have made sure these adjustments only affect the shape of the thongs not the size though so you can continue to order the same size as before.
Another improvement we made was to the actual EVA material; Slappa’s are now much softer to start with, they don’t feel as tight, and they mould to your feet almost instantly!
I’ve purchased Slappas before but can’t remember what size I am?
If you bought your last pair online simply email us: info@slappasthongs.com.au with your first name, last name and email address and we’ll let you know what size you ordered previously.
If you purchased from a stockist we aren’t able to look up your past orders via our system but one trick is to use a wet cloth to wipe over the circle with the size in it on the bottom of your Slappas; it will help the numbers appear even if they’ve been faded away.
What is the best way to work out my correct size?
To ensure your Slappa’s Thongs ‘fit like a glove’ we recommend that you download our size chart.
The alternative method is to measure your existing thongs from the Big Toe to the middle of the back of the heel or to where the heel of your foot sits in the thongs (see image below). Our sizes are listed on the website in Euro sizing and the conversion to mms can be found on the size chart.
If you own a pair of runners the size in cms is usually a good indication of what size to order. The cms size can be converted via the size chart
Please also take the time to read our Terms and Conditions prior to placing your order.
Slappas are unisex please check the size chart for Men and Women sizing.
Do you have kids sizes?

What shouldn’t I do with my Slappa’s thongs?
- Go rock climbing or walk on very jagged materials.
- Leave them in a hot car, tent or in direct sunlight for long periods
How durable are Slappa’s thongs?
EVA is a very durable and flexible material which makes Slappa’s Thongs quite strong and long-lasting.
What should I do if my Slappa’s get stuck in mud or sand?
It is best to take your foot out of the thongs and then pull the thong out with your hands from the sole, not the toe piece. This is so you don’t weaken or put pressure on the toe piece.
Can Slappa’s thongs shrink?
Yes, they can! And that’s why it’s extremely important that you NEVER leave your Slappa’s in direct sunlight or in a hot car, closed hot tent or high temperature area for long periods of time.
What is the best way to mould Slappa’s thongs to my feet?
When your Slappa’s first arrive they may take some time to mould to your feet and become comfy. This is because podiatrists and chiropractors recommend that they start firm for better support.
To help your Slappa’s mould to your feet quickly and easily simply keep wearing them in the shower, until soften to your liking; the hot water will soften the EVA foam and loosen the toe piece and straps. You can also leave them in direct sunlight for 10 – 15 minutes then wear them around.
If you have any issues or questions about moulding please send us an email.

My new Slappa’s seem smaller than my old Slappa’s of the same size?
If you’ve just received a brand-new pair of Slappa’s and they seem to be a little smaller than your older pair rest assured this is perfectly normal. Since Slappa’s mould to your feet your old pair will have, over time, pushed out around your feet making them look wider and longer.
The best way to help them mould quickly is to leave them in the sun for 10 – 15 minutes then wear them around. You can also wear them in the shower so the hot water can soften the EVA foam and help mould to your feet. If they’re still feeling quite tight after moulding in the shower a few times you can try wearing them around the house with socks this should help the straps stretch also
I am not sure the size I ordered is correct for me?
If you have any doubts about whether your Slappa’s are a correct fit please send through photos of them on your feet showing the back of the heels, front looking down at toes and side profile showing the arch to: info@slappasthongs.com.au
