Our Charities
Cystic Fibrosis SA
Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is the most common inherited disease affecting the developed world, with one in every 2,500 children affected. It is a multi-organ disease, affecting the lungs, gut, liver, pancreas and reproductive tissues. At present about half of those with CF will die by their late 30’s from lung disease which is the cause of death in over 90% of CF patients.
Slappa’s Thongs have been supporting Cystic fibrosis South Australia (CFSA) for around 4 years donating money to assist with research and purchasing new updated equipment. Denise is emotionally attached to this charity, as she has very close friends who have a daughter with cystic fibrosis.
Cure for Cystic Fibrosis
Established in 2009, the Cure4CF Foundation is a registered not for profit charity with the primary goal of finding a cure for Cystic Fibrosis. Cure4CF seeks to achieve its goal by raising and directing funds to promising avenues of research. To date, this has seen the Foundation support the work of the Adelaide CF Airway Gene Therapy Research Group as they work towards finding a cure for Cystic Fibrosis Airway Disease.
Total Recreation
Total Recreation empower their members to become actively involved in their local community through sport, fitness groups, social activities and travel. They ensure activities and events enjoyed by us all are available to those with disabilities as they believe we all have a right to be included, regardless of our level of ability.
Slappa’s Thongs have been participating in this event since 2018 and in 2019 became a major sponsor. We are proud to be involved with such an amazing local organisation that support adults and children with disabilities.
The Katherine to Darwin Challenge (K2DC) is a cycling event held during the last weekend in June 2020. Up to sixty riders will complete the over 320km demanding route over 3 consecutive days. The aim is to raise funds for Total Recreation, a community based not for profit organisation that provides opportunities for people with disability to participate in sporting and recreation activities. Get involved, support a rider by donating or start your training today, join the peloton and take up the challenge.
National Breast Cancer Foundation
The National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) is Australia’s leading national body funding game-changing breast cancer research with money raised entirely by the Australian public. They receive no government funding. What they do, would not be possible without the support and generosity of people and organisations like you.
Their mission is simple: stop deaths from breast cancer. How? By identifying, funding and championing world-class research -research that will help us detect tumours earlier, improve treatment outcomes, and ultimately –save lives. Since NBCF’s inception in 1994, the five-year survival rates for breast cancer has increased from 76% to 91%. It’s proof that their strategy is working.
Slappa’s Thongs has previously and will continue to run fundraising campaigns whereby a portion of our profits on our Pink Slappa’s and Pink and White Slappa’s thongs is donated to the NBCF.
